20 For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:

Debates seen as negative.

James 3 v 16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

ALL works of the flesh and to be avoided.

Titus 3 v 9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
10 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;
11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.

Certain people you can only go so far with and then reject.

Jude3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

A proper understanding of grace needs to be taught.

Colossians 4 v 6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

Speaking the truth sincerely in love.

1 Peter 3 v 15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

The Christian life can challenge people to ask you questions and
we need to be honest and do the best we can to answer questions.

1 Timothy 6 v 20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

Once again be careful of debates,

Colossians 2 v 8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Be careful of sound doctrine being replaced by wisdom of man.

Romans 16 v 17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

Many are deceived by so called prosperity preachers.

Job 26 v 1 But Job answered and said,2 How hast thou helped him that is without power? how savest thou the arm that hath no strength?
3 How hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom? and how hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it is?
4 To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose spirit came from thee?

Some questions we need to ask ourselves.

Cults and Concerns!

Cult Definition: A group of people having religious beliefs or practices regarded by others as strange or as imposing excessive control over members. Concerns: Primarily the loss of salvation. The concern of the use of deceptive and manipulative methods by cults to recruit and indoctrinate unsuspecting members of      society. The cult methods that present a threat to individual and their family. Cult methods including mind control: Love bombing - Creating a sense of family and belonging through hugging, kissing, and flattery. Elitism - Claiming to have superior moral behaviour and understanding of the truth.  Isolation - Inducing loss of reality by physical separation from family, friends, society. Approval love - Commending people ( especially those in their inner circle) before others for good works, keeping them dependant on works for special praise and attention.
